Artist Bio

With artwork sold around the world, Mary Lu is not only a global entrepreneur and professional artist, but also a creative soul. Her artwork materializes the connection between natural phenomena and profound sociological insight. While art is a huge part of her life, it is not her sole profession; Mary Lu is currently studying to become an international lawyer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, but could not bear to give up her passion while a freshman in college. Her goal is to preserve the natural world, which is why she is planning to specialize in environmental law. This passion for nature has been omnipresent throughout her past, and is reflected in her work. Growing up in Germany and having traveled through several continents, Mary Lu has not only found unique perspectives on nature, but has also had the opportunity to develop a keen sense of what drives society, all of which she pours onto a canvas. Ranging from overcoming hardships to commentary on a country’s political polarization, no piece of Mary Lu’s artwork is without thought or meaning.

Mary Lu works with acrylic paint on stretched canvases. She specializes in fluid art, often incorporating silhouettes into her work. Her unique style consists of using different pouring methods layered on top of each other to create the illusion of movement. She works with bright colors, layering contrasting palettes within the same piece to communicate her message and draw attention to specific details in order to evoke emotion from the viewer. Her vibrant pieces, while possessing well thought out representational plans, can be interpreted in a multitude of ways, which is the aspect of abstract art Mary Lu finds most appealing.
